WDDD Promotes “Freedom from Screens” in India

On 15 August 2026, Shri Vithal Education and Research Institute, Pandharpur, Maharashtra, used India’s Independence Day to promote an important dimension of digital wellbeing: the freedom to disconnect from screens and reconnect with people, nature and community.

In association with WDDD, more than 500 students and educators participated in a morning of outdoor activities and collective engagement. The programme included a traditional Indian morning community procession, known as a Prabhat Pheri, bringing students together through movement, participation and shared experience.

The institute’s “Freedom from Screens” campaign encouraged students to spend meaningful time beyond devices, reinforcing the message:
More Nature. More Friends. Better Health. Stronger Nation.

The initiative reflects the WDDD 2026 theme, “Digital Balance, Human Connection,” which emphasizes that digital wellbeing is not about rejecting technology, but about developing healthier patterns of use and protecting time for relationships, physical activity, nature and community life.
WDDD recognizes Shri Vithal Education and Research Institute for translating this principle into a practical, youth-focused initiative and for demonstrating how educational institutions can contribute to healthier digital habits.
Digital balance begins when technology has its place—and human connection has its priority.
